How to Find the Best Online Math Tutor

The Internet is a big pond. You can throw a rock anywhere in that pond and get a huge ripple coming back at you. It is no different with trying to find the best online math tutor.

Still, taking the time to sort through the confusion will always be worth it, and remember, it’s not like the bad old days when there was only one math tutor in town.

What then, does a good online math tutor make? And how do you find them?

Best conjures up a certain idea that can’t be ignored when we are talking about anything, and that idea is expert. It would seem fairly straightforward that the first criteria of the best online math tutor you can find would be expert at what they do.

How do you define expert at math? First, has the tutor been professionally trained as a math teacher/tutor? Second, how many years of experience does the tutor have? Also, has there been experience tutoring online as opposed to face to face? Remember, when you are thinking best there are all three of these categories to address.

Another criterion of an expert is the tools he/she uses. Tools of the online tutoring trade include the interactive whiteboard being used and the VOIP connection. Then there is the ability to connect with the student.

How important is it to include learning strategies? Well, probably, the best online math tutor will not be able to restrain herself from finding extra ways to help the student be the best they can be. Being the best will often bring out the best in others.

Don’t commit yourself to a long contract until you can make a decision you feel comfortable with. It is true education is a commitment, and lots of tutoring companies insist you make one to them. Negotiate this. Try them out and see if they are what you want. Why settle for less. The best is out there, and if you search for what you are looking for with diligence you will find it.
